Caregiving
Are you part of the sandwich generations, that is simultaneously caring for a child/grandchild and aging parents, relatives, siblings, or friends?
Sandwich Generation
When my father passed, my mother moved from Florida to live with me and my daughters in Texas. Middle-aged women are increasingly faced with caring for multiple generations within a family system. Having good coping resources can have a significant impact on a person’s psychological well-being. Also, good physical health and social integration can reduce psychological strains on caregiving.
Caring for my mom while also juggling watching my granddaughters and a counseling business took some planning and lots of humor. It also provided some memorable opportunities for emotional bonding between my mother and her great granddaughters. My mom passed away recently at 94 years old. She lived an impactful life. I am so thankful that multiple generations were able to share in her care and love.
